BALI, INDONESIA — This May, SUN.CONTEMPORARY invites art enthusiasts, collectors, and the curious public to experience two evocative exhibitions running side by side, each offering a distinct window into the power of artistic storytelling.
Opening on May 9, 2025, the gallery presents:
“Rwa Bhineda” – A Curated Reflection on Balinese Duality

Curated by Brina Paska, Rwa Bhineda brings together 17 Indonesian artists to explore the enduring Balinese concept of duality, light and dark, sacred and profane, past and present. What sets this exhibition apart is its bold juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary artworks, staged in dialogue within the gallery’s Main Hall. The result is a compelling space where heritage and modern expression collide and coalesce, reminding us that balance is not only philosophical but deeply visual.
Featured artists include prominent names such as Mangku Muriati, Sarita Ibnoe, Valasara, and Cokorda Raka Sedana, each offering their own interpretations of contrast, harmony, and cultural identity. From the intricate lines of Batuan painting to mixed-media installations, Rwa Bhineda is both a homage to Bali’s artistic lineage and a challenge to reimagine it.
Lorraine Loots: “Painting for Ants – The Bali Collection”

In the Project Room, internationally acclaimed South African artist Lorraine Loots makes her Bali debut with Painting for Ants: The Bali Collection. Known for her breathtakingly tiny paintings, some smaller than a coin, Loots has captured the hearts of global audiences through her meditative attention to detail and emotionally resonant imagery.
This latest body of work continues her exploration of nostalgia, memory, and the intimacy of scale, drawing inspiration from Bali’s landscapes, rituals, and natural beauty. Loots’ paintings have been spotlighted by CNN, The Huffington Post, and numerous international exhibitions. Now, for the first time, they find a home in Bali, speaking softly but powerfully to those who pause to look closely.
